The Instructor

Laon Lovelace

Laon Lovelace, Certified Activity Director, shared passion to help others coupled with 25 years in the healthcare field and 6 years in education promoted her to start Lovelace Crafts and More, LLC. Born and raised in St. Louis MO, at an early age, she witnessed the struggles and frustrations of several of her immediate family members who had to cope with disabilities. It was not easy to watch, as they did their best to maneuver through the trials and tribulations of life. Over the years, she developed skills to help them manage and live their lives to the fullest. Those skills included: asking them if they need assistance, avoid showing pity or being patronizing and finally being passionate and demonstrating love. These skills were the fundamentals that she would use later in her adult life.

However, during this time, she too, had to deal with her own disabilities. She eventually conquered and accepted them and was able to move into a more meaningful and satisfying life. She moved to Baltimore in 1985 to continue her quest to help people. She home schooled her three children for four years, volunteered at Baltimore Christian School in the elementary art department for 3 years and continues to volunteer as the Youth Sunday School Teacher at her church.

She gained additional insight into helping others by becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant, as well a Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant and receiving a Copper Ridge Dementia Certification. These diverse trainings assisted her in understanding and interpreting both the emotional and physical aspects of working with clients regardless of age and/or disability. Now being a Certified Activity Director , these certifications, employment opportunities, volunteerism, educational background and training formed the genesis of what would become Lovelace Crafts and More, LLC.
